Romeo & Juliet, Wills & Kate, Mickey and Minnie…we all know the great love stories but being Valentine’s Day, we thought we’d share with you one of our personal favourites. The one that we think will be 2014’s greatest love story (no not Kimye)… The Internet and Content Marketing.

‘They locked eyes across the room’…

The Internet saw content & knew instantly it was what it needed. Content saw the Internet & knew instantly it had something to offer. But their love would never have blossomed if they both weren’t out to be seen in the first place. So if you’ve got relationship envy & want to get yourself noticed, consider your visibility: implement PPC, Social Media Channels, SEO into your marketing mix.

‘Hey good looking’…

We’re encouraged not to be so shallow & judge people on appearance but it’s one of the reasons why the Internet and content are still going so strong. Content makes the Internet more interesting, informative & powerful with brand profile pictures, seasonal backgrounds & branded cover photos. The Internet loves content that is grammatically correct & aesthetically presented. SO a relationship based on looks can work sometimes…

‘Can I call you some time?’…

Swapping numbers/contact details can be a big decision but if content wants your ‘deets’ badly enough, it’s pretty persistent – chat boxes on websites, registration forms, newsletter sign ups, enquiry forms. If you don’t ask you don’t get. Besides, how else are you going to arrange those 2nd & 3rd dates if you don’t have a method of communication? Content asked, Internet delivered…

‘The 2nd & 3rd Date’…

The Internet & Content had a few dates; on Google, on Facebook…all thanks to ‘re-marketing’. You’ve all seen yourself conduct a search on the web e.g. – Valentine’s Day. Next thing you’re noticing ads popping up left right & centre for roses, chocolates, gifts for her etc. This isn’t coincidence; this is re-marketing at its’ best.

‘Just not that into you?’…

After a few encounters (via PPC, SEO, Social Media, re-marketing) feelings still weren’t clear. Internet had shown interest in content but had never ‘sealed the deal’ so content seduced the Internet with free downloads, case studies, white papers etc. Hey presto! – it worked. So keep that in mind…you might want to give a little to get a lot.

‘Relationship Status: In a Relationship’…

It’s official – the internet & content became an item. Humorous images, educational videos, witty blogs & fun competitions were being shared, declaring love & appreciation to the world. The sharing of both brand generated content & user generated content is the ideal way to announce that ‘me & he are now a we’ in a digital relationship.

‘The L Word’…

It’s a big, big step & only comes after a solid foundation of trust & loyalty has been established in a relationship. Content showers the Internet with love by offering loyalty cards, special offers, discounts & seasonal exclusives to users & in return, the Internet & its’ users invest time & money back into the relationship. It’s a win/win situation when love’s involved…

‘The Proposal’…

They’ve checked each other out, they’ve spent time together, they’ve shared things, they’ve announced to the world that they’re ‘together’, they’ve shown each other love & now it’s time for the BIG question! “Internet, will you….review me?” Reviews, feedback & testimonials are aspects of content that can really strengthen a relationship & prove to the world how good/trustworthy/lovable something really is. But like any proposal, you’re only going to ask if you’re pretty certain the reaction is going to be positive so don’t ask for a review if you’re not behaving like the ‘perfect partner’ should. If you ask & it’s a big fat ‘YES, I love you’ then share it; on your website, on your social media, in your emails etc.
